Every avatar has a past.

Behind every avatar in the lobby stands a line of edits, offshoots, remeshes and sisters who share its body. AvatarAncestry has traced 61 of them across thirteen houses, back to the species and shops where they began. Somewhere in there is yours.
Our research

No avatar is made from nothing. Hardly any, anyway.

A base is bought, edited, edited again, given a tail from another base, fitted with clothes made for its sister, and uploaded. Three years later it is in a public world wearing a hat from a fourth family, and nobody in the instance can tell you where it came from.

We can. AvatarAncestry reads the records the family keeps on itself: store listings, credits, permissions, the species wiki, the line in the readme that says “edit of”. From them we draw the tree, house by house, with every branch sourced. Where the records only hint, we say so, and draw the branch dotted.

House Primagen · 2015 to 2017

The open child of a closed parent

Primagen began in 2015 as a closed species: only its creator, Malice-Risu, could make one, and they sold at auction for as much as $1,200.

In 2017 Malice-Risu opened an extension of the design to everyone and called it the Protogen. It went on to fill fursuit conventions, meme pages and a whole shelf of VRChat bases. The parent is still exclusive.

Kaguya is a nine-tailed fox. Her body is the same one that Mizuki and Rurune the shark girl wear, so skins and outfits pass freely between all three.

Genealogists call this a shared body. Siblings call it “that’s my jacket.”

Mafuyu is sold by PLUS ONE. Cian is sold by sep-neko-ya. Both were designed and modelled by Arisaka Mito, and both listings say the same thing: the bodies are shared.

Rusk was born on 1 January 2021. Karin on 1 January 2022, Chiffon on 1 January 2024, Chocolat on 1 January 2025, Plum on 1 January 2026. Lime was born on 30 June 2023, and nobody in the family has ever explained it.

Plum’s own listing calls her the child who shares a body with Lime, Chiffon and Chocolat. Rusk also exists as a real hoodie.

Imeris, the eldest daughter of STUDIO JINGO (2021), has 467 items on Booth made to fit her. Manuka, born 2023, has 15,491.

At Ponderogen, little sister Shinano (2024) has 14,418 to big sister Kikyo’s 7,772. It is the same in every family. The youngest gets everything.
